LITIGATION

We represent clients suing local, state and federal agencies for employment and civil rights violations. We represent employees suing their employers for unfair and inappropriate treatment in their workplaces, whether due to problems with pay, breaks, discrimination, whistle-blowing, family leave, disability or other statutorily protected rights, or contract disputes. We represent victims of governmental violence, typically in the context of police and police actions.

EMPLOYMENT LAW

As a long-time employee advocate, starting in 1976 when he was arrested for supporting a worker’s strike, Matt has always gone out of his way for employees to ensure they are protected and not ripped off. In his most recent victory (2023), he settled a class action case for $420,000 on behalf of almost 4000 workers whose employer had not provided them with reimbursement for using their cell phones at work.

Our litigation approach is simple: make sure our clients know exactly what we are doing, get their approval for our litigation strategies, and be aggressive as possible. Our clients want results and they want them yesterday. We use injunctions, receivers, attachment orders and file motions designed to pressure the defendants into settling as quickly as possible. No one likes protracted, expensive litigation. Our goal is to get cases resolved without delays.

TRANSACTIONAL WORK

Many of our clients are looking for guidance as they start up and invest in their businesses. We are proactive. When our clients are often not sure what they need to do to comply with various (and numerous!) laws, we jump into that void and recommend structures that take into account employment, environmental laws, corporate, tax and other laws. We pride ourselves in helping clients find solutions that are efficient and cost-effective but which provide them with maximum protection.
